Six years ago today I lost Him but gained this…

It’s not the load that breaks you down, it’s the way you carry it.
– Lena Horne, Singer

When I saw that quote I started tearing up.

For no other reason than the fact that I realize that the grace that has been extended to me, is the reason the load that I was given six years ago did not break me.

Six and a half years ago things were great. I had been married eighteen years, had four kids, and for the first time in my life was really enjoying it.

My husband, who had spent most of our marriage hiding behind a wall, was finally coming out of his shell.

He had been saved when he found out that he had cancer, the first time, and as a result he allowed God to work in his life, becoming the husband and father that I always dreamed him to be.

The kids and I were thrilled.

But the cancer came back and took him from us.

Six years ago today,April 6th 2008, he left for his real home.

He was the strong one, we thought.

He was the glue.

I did not know how I would survive.

THEN

God graciously reminded me to give it all to Him.

So I rested in Jesus.

I gave everything, all that I had, all my worries, problems, and hurts to God.

I gave the load to him because I knew that I did not have the strength to carry it.

And what I found out was that, this is how we are supposed to carry the loads that have been given.

We are supposed to carry them to God and let go and trust God, because

He is the Glue.

He is the strong one!

The reason our heavy loads can’t break us is because we are not carrying them.

Has it been easy? Heck no!

But after all these years without my husband I am convinced more than ever that God is faithful to all those who trust in Him.

Do you have a load that is too big for you to carry?

Give it to God.

He is more than able to carry it for you!

What faith is

Faith is believing what God says simply because it is God who says it. – Unknown

Why we need to put down our paddles and pick up our pom-poms

cheer

I am a person who really does not like conflict. In fact I just ordered a pair of plain black glasses and was given a pair with black on the front and animal print (ick) on the sides.

Did I  give them back, insisting they be fixed? No I just decided to live with them. And I have.

But there is one thing that I cannot live with anymore. Something that it eating away at me.

It is the way we as Christians encourage (or don’t encourage) each other.

We are supposed to be a people of faith who simply believe. We are supposed to have a childlike faith.

And yet when someone comes to us excitedly telling us what God just promised them, the usual reaction that we have is to take out our huge paddles, worn with use, and smack that idea down so hard  as to shatter it in a million pieces.

We tell them all the reasons why it is not God, instead of believing that God does want to do miraculous things in and through His people.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that we are to discourage other Christians from believing God’s promises.  In fact it says just the opposite;

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, … respect those who labor among you… esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.”                                                  (1 Thessalonians 5:11–15, ESV)

Look at that!! Paul is saying that to do nothing is not a good thing, so when did we as Christians have come to believe that passivity is the best option?

No, Gods words tells us to not tear down but “build each other up.”

If we are told an idea by a Christian that we find hard to believe, we need to just cheer them on, and then pray for them.

If they are believing sincerely that God is telling them something foolish, and we believe that God is a good God, then why on earth would we think that we have to stop them from some horrible ending. If God is a good God who loves us, wouldn’t He make sure that even if we mishear, He will get us to where we need to be.

The world bashes us enough, and that is ok because they do not believe in a powerful God who loves them, but we should not be bashing each other.

Families are supposed to be our soft spot to land, so let’s be determined to put down our paddles and pick up our pom-poms and make it our business to cheer each other on and believe that God has the best in store for them.

We are called “believers” after all!!

When mature Christians go hungry it’s because of this

kis

God is stirring up something in me lately and as a result some things are starting to bug me.

Now for those of you that know me, you will know that I am, for the most part a very positive person, and yet here I am bugged.

But even more than being bugged I am sad.

Why? Because we are supposed to be a people of simple faith!!!!!!!!

We are supposed to be those who are like children. A people who simply believe God!!

And yet we as Christians have chosen to mostly rely on ourselves, resulting in our becoming a people who do not really believe that God could do “Awesome and Amazing Things” through us or through others.

Jesus himself said in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me, and stop keeping them away, because the kingdom from heaven belongs to people like these.

Who does heaven belong too?

Those who simply believe.

Think about it!! When a child is playing outside and they hear the call from their mom “Dinner!” they do not stop and think “hmmm I wonder if I should go inside. There probably is not food there, I will probably look stupid if I go to the table! My friends will think I am a sucker for believing there is food, so I better stay outside even though I am hungry.”

NO!!!!

A Child simply goes to the table and is fed!!!

We need to start believing and then acting on the things that God is putting on our hearts!!!! We need to go to His table and be fed!!!

Come on Christians, God wants to change the world through us!!!!!

But He cannot do that if we refuse to come in from the cold!!!

If we build it He will come (and bring this with Him)

boat

Those that know me, or have been following my story here, will know that I have one phase embedded deep within me…

God is Faithful!!!!!

So it does not matter that I look a little bit like Noah, building a boat in a desert for 120 years, because in exactly the right time, in His time,  I know that God will bring the rain!!!

It is in these times where we do not see God working that we have to remind ourselves of how faithful God was to us in the past.

Are you waiting on a miracle?

Remember

God is faithful to bring it!!!!

Do you need direction?

Remember

God is faithful to give it!!!!!

Do you need restoration?

Remember

God is faithful to restore!!!!!!!

If we are earnestly seeking His will for our lives, He will lead us.

As the John 11 reminds us, He is “The Good Shepard.”

So if you are submitted to Him then it doesn’t matter what it looks like in the natural, He is faithful to get you to where you need to be!!!

It really does not matter how many people tell you that you are crazy,or how many times you have doubted yourself.

God is faithful for His sake and for ours!!!

Keep building your ark!!
